The couples have to register their marriage within 60 days of wedding. In case of non-compliance a fine of Rs. 1,000 will be levied.

Registration of marriage in Delhi is compulsory under The Compulsory Registration Marriage Order, 2014 if –

  • Either of the Party to marriage is a citizen of India.
  • Groom is 21 years old, and the bride is 18 years old.
  • The couple married within Delhi.
  • Registration should be done within 60 days of marriage.
  • A penalty will be imposed if marriage is not registered within a prescribed period.

Documents required for marriage registration

Following are the essential documents for the process of registration-

  • Application Form
  • Identity Proof
  • Proof of Birth
  • Residential proof
  • 2 Passport size photographs
  • 1 photograph of marriage
  • Invitation card
  • Registration fee

Note: All the documents have to be attested by Gazetted Officer. After all the verification, the parties have to visit the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. If he is satisfied, then the certificate is granted.

Whom to approach for marriage registration?

If you want to register your marriage registration-

  • You can approach the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in the area where the marriage took place
  • Similarly, you can also approach the SDM where the parties stayed for at least six months before the wedding.

For registration, we require two witnesses, and he can be anyone who has attended the wedding having a PAN card and residential proof.

The marriage registration fee is Rs. 100/- for Hindu Marriage Act and Rs. 150/- for Special Marriage Act. If you want to register your marriage, deposit your fees coupled with other documents with cashier of the district and thereafter attach the receipt with the application form.
