Food Industry is a diverse industry which includes the manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale and import of all possible food articles. This industry subjects to some regulations for the purpose of safety, hygiene and quality. And FSSAI authority acts as a single reference point for every subject matter relating to food safety, food standard at multiple levels. It lays down guidelines and an appropriate system of enforcing such guidelines and standards. One such system is of FSSAI Licensing and FSSAI Registration or Food License. Thus every Food Business Operator, FBO has to obtain FSSAI License or FSSAI Registration Certificate from the appropriate Authority, be it State or Central as per the eligibility criteria set forth.
These certifications are obtained for a minimum period of 1 years and a maximum period of 5 years.
As the name suggests, it is the most basic certification with FSSAI. For this registration, the applicant has to fulfil certain preconditions such as:

Following documents shall be required for the application to be made for obtaining an FSSAI State License:
The procedure of obtaining an FSSAI State License is more complex than the other two. The procedure of FSSAI State Licensing takes about 30-45 days as per the nature of the business.

2. Such form should be accompanied with the required documents and the prescribed government fee and should be submitted to the appropriate authority.

FSSAI authority at the Central License for the food business that falls in the following criteria:
1. The food operators which have operations in more than 1 State, have to obtain Central License for their head Office
2. For Manufacturing Units:
All units importing food items including food ingredients and additives for commercial use
4. Other Businesses:
5. Food catering services established in units under the Central Government Agencies example Defence or notified Seaports and Airports etc
6. Retailer Distributor and Storage Wholesaler in the premises of notified Central governmental Agencies.
