GST Registration

Under the GST Law, businesses having a turnover exceeding Rs. 40 Lakhs( except for NE and Hill States for which the turnover should be Rs. 10 Lakhs) have to register under GST. This whole procedure is known as GST Registration. Hence, if your business is of more than 40 Lakh, then you get a GST Registration.

In some cases, it is mandatory to register under GST. If the organizations carry their business without GST Registration, then it would be an offence under GST.

One needs to be aware of their case. Once, it is decided that the GST registration is applicable in their case, they need to gather all the documents for GST registration. The appropriate required documents differ from case to case.

Registration for GST takes around 3-6 business days with LawyerINC.

Benefits of GST Registration

  • GST being comprehensive in nature, eliminates the cascading tax effect.  Cascading effect means a tax on a tax system that was pre-existing in the Indian taxation system. GST removes this effect as taxation is done directly on the cost of the goods and services.
  • The burden of taxes on manufacturers has come down as they can now reduce the taxes which they have already paid on inputs.
  • It is a transparent tax system.
  • It checks tax evasion.
  • A higher threshold of Rs. 20 Lakh means small businesses are exempted. This is a welcome move, as it will boost small businesses.
  • Introduction of composition schemes for small businesses.
  • The number of compliances has reduced. Earlier, different taxes were levied, and each had their own return and compliance, but with GST, we now have just one unified return to file.
  • Regulation of the unorganized sector like construction and textile industry. Earlier, they were not regulated. But with online compliances, these industries have regulated.
